New Georgia Task Force Releases Final Reports

ATLANTA, Georgia -- The results of Governor Sonny Perdue's Commission for New Georgia Strategic Industries Task Force have confirmed what many of us in the film, video, music, and digital production industries have known for awhile; that we in the "multimedia" cluster are a valuable and strategic component in Georgia's potential economic growth. While the Task Force identified aerospace, agribusiness, energy and environmental, health care and elder care, life sciences, logistics and transportation as the top industry clusters with the greatest economic impact, they also identified multimedia as a supporting industry cluster that complements the State's economic development efforts. Discussion questions and answers pertaining to Multimedia (Film-specific) can be found in the report beginning on page 57. For additional information, visit the Commission for a New Georgia Web site at www.new-georgia.org.

The Strategic Industries Task Force seeks to identify those industries that are strategic to Georgia's future economic well-being. The mission of the Strategic Industries Task Force is:
  • to consider Georgia's strengths and weaknesses from a global economic development perspective
  • to understand its available resources and industries at risk
  • to obtain insight from stakeholders throughout the state
  • to recommend industries in which Georgia has or can have significant marketshare and mindshare
The Task Force will make initial recommendations for strategies and program enhancements to support these industries. Strategies to develop these industries may include both short and long term efforts, and will be designed to benefit existing Georgia employers and citizens and to attract new ones. The reports are the work of an independent task force and pro bono consultants from across Georgia. The ideas and recommendations produced in the reports are only the initial step in the efforts to improve various areas of state government.
