HB 1180, a bill that would make changes to Georgia’s film tax credit program, passed the House today by a vote of 131-34. Both Republicans and Democrats expressed their support for the Georgia film industry during discussion of the bill. Throughout the legislative process, many House legislators have shared their intent to support the film industry with a stable film tax incentive that is viable for the long term.
The bill now moves to the State Senate. It must complete the full committee process, similar to the process in the House. If the bill passes the Senate, it returns to the House and must be approved. There are multiple steps ahead, and likely many changes along the way. If the bill makes it through the process and becomes law, it would go into effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
So is this a good or bad bill for the industry, and is there anything we can do to promote a positive outcome at this point?
